Looking for books by Walter Wick See all books authored by Walter Wick, including I Spy: A Book of Picture Riddles, and I Spy Mystery: A Book of Picture. Wick will also be making several appearances at the museum to discuss the depth and scope of his career and his creative process. The exhibition pairs beloved images, including over 15 never-before-seen works, with numerous three-dimensional models upon which his photographs are based. This exhibition is the largest survey of Wick’s work to date and is titled after his recent book, “Walter Wick: Hidden Wonders!” The presentation is organized by themes that have long fascinated Wick, including Miniature Worlds Floor Games Craft-Built Worlds Optical Illusions I Spy Games Puzzle Challenges, Wonders of Science Connecticut Woods and Curiosity Shop. Whenever the text is in italics it indicates that McBride’s mother is speaking. She educated all her children who didn’t even know her maiden name when they were grown. His mother will not reveal where she was from or if she were Black. There is a short intro where McBride says his mother was “the daughter of an Orthodox Jewish rabbi married a black man in 1942” (xvii). It is also heartwarming that an adult male child took such a great interest in the inner world of his mother. It is a fascinating story because you have such deep description of a real person: her history, her words, her actions, her beliefs. She loved Black people, married Black men, and was extremely proud of and educated her many Black children who all grew up to be working professionals. ![]() Just as the title indicates, this book focuses on McBride’s white Jewish mother who never identified with white people. That something was a mouse who would become the character Oswald Chitter. He had been designing a big, furry alien but decided to take a break and draw something small. ![]() Jarvis came up with the idea for The Deptford Mice while working as a model-maker for television programmes and commercials. The Crystal Prison and The Final Reckoning were published there in 20 respectively. In 2000, The Deptford Mice trilogy made its debut in the United States with the publication of The Dark Portal by SeaStar Books. The first book in the series, The Dark Portal, was a runner-up for the Smarties book prize in 1989.
